About the North Cheltenham Preschool

The preschool is situated in a residential area bordered by Friendship Square and Argus Street.

The preschool has ample indoor space with a large, bright room in which the children can enjoy the various activities throughout each session. Outside there is a large grassy play area, cubby, large sandpit and swings, together with a shaded area covering the children’s climbing frame and super slide. The outdoor area also encompasses a soft fall area, where the children can climb and explore, and two vegetable patches with a resident scarecrow.

Preschool Philosophy

During a child’s year at preschool many skills, concepts and interests are developed which lay the foundation for later years of learning. Through the programme, that is planned according to the needs of the children, their social, emotional, intellectual, physical and creative development will be met through a range of activities and experiences. The children are encouraged, through positive guidance and realistic expectations, to become autonomous, independent and resourceful people.
As a result, we hope to increase each child’s confidence and self-esteem. Learning to be a strong and independent individual and a co-operative social being is a skill that children will need for the remainder of their lives.

Committee of Management

Each year a Committee of Management is elected at the Annual General Meeting. The Committee has a major responsibility in relation to the management of the preschool. Parents who are Committee members attend regular Committee Meetings, set goals and share responsibility in decision-making.

Parental Involvement

Parents have access to the programme at all times.  Parent involvement is an encouraged aspect of the operation of the preschool. There are many ways in which parents can be involved at the preschool, including ‘stay and play’, helping with laundry, excursions, working bees, fundraising activities and social events.

Hours of Operation

For 2011 the preschool provides a sessional programme for 4-5 year old children. Each child attends a total of 13 hours per week, over two or three sessions. These are made up of either two whole days, or one whole and two half days.

There is also a sessional programme for 3-4 year olds. Each child attends a total of 6 hours per week, over two 3 hour sessions.

What would you like?

  • We regularly review the sessions provided for 3-4 year-old groups and 4-5 year-old groups.
  • We aim to provide the best service we can for the children and parents in the area.
  • We aim to speak to as many parents as possible both those with children currently at North Cheltenham preschool and those wishing to join us in the future. We encourage any feedback regarding our services.
